The Surface Skeleton and Buried Body Recovery Seminar is a 3 day, hands-on, course designed to orient detectives, crime scene investigators and medico-legal death investigators to the proper techniques for processing surface skeleton and buried body scenes. Training hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.


Day One: Classroom Lecture

  • Forensic Anthropology
  • Surface and Buried Body Recovery Techniques

Day Two: Field Recovery Exercise

  • Recovery of human remains from a clandestine grave (plastic skeleton with complete homicide scenario)
  • Cadaver dog demonstration
  • Dress appropriately for sun exposure and excavating a grave

Day Three: Classroom Lecture

  • Forensic Odontology, Forensic Entomology, group presentations

The seminar has enjoyed over 12 years of success in Arizona, Nevada, Ohio and The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Georgia. The principal instructors have decades of experience in this field and have worked as a team in presenting this course for its duration.


Students should come prepared to learn proper archeological and anthropological techniques for such recoveries through classroom instruction and by excavating a human remains scenario. The class will include discussion of forensic anthropological, odontological and entomological principles and proper crime scene management.


Class size is limited to allow for adequate hands-on involvement in the practical exercise. Register early to ensure a spot in this training.

Payment Information

Registration fee is $300 per student, payable by check or credit card.

Full refunds will be made for cancellations received by 5:00 PM on September 6, 2010. Refunds, less $50 for administrative fees, will be made for cancellations received after September 6, 2010. Registration is fully transferable to another student from your agency or employer.
